Asylum Center Betánia in Malacky – InStep Project

Subject of my work is creating a new building for Asylum Center Betania in Malacky. I’ve decided to design new building becouse of bad condition of existing building and low housing standards. As you may know Asylum Center Betania works under help of non-profit organisation  „KRIŽOVATKY”. They take care of homeless people, victims of domestic violence, mostly women and children. Plot is located in south part of the city. It is next to the most visited part of the area, next to supermarket and restaurant.

Mini power station at Obchodna street

In my group we were working at Obchodna street problems, one of them was a gap between building that I decided to fill creating a Mini power station.

I made a project which should be an answer to needs of habitants and users of Obchodna street. The main function is a place to work, individual or in groups and a place for workshops. Every work station has a store shelf to keep products needed in a creation process, to keep things already made or not finished yet. There is also a place for exhibition. In a building there are two coffee houses and dancing club in a basement.

The subject of my project is an effective market hall, situated at Obchodna Street.

Interest Groups in the Refurbishment Process of Obchodna Street

Roughly in the middle of Obchodna street, there is a node of increased activities. The node is created naturally by the intersection of Obchodna street with Postova street. This node stretches the pedestrian zone in a perpendicular way, adding another dimension to the public space. Feeding substantial part of pedestrians from the transport hub at Hodzovo square, the intersection creates an open plaza in front of the Crowne Plaza hotel. Just in the middle of this unnamed plaza, one can find a block of shops. These temporary vendor stands are of a poor technical and aesthetical quality and are considered for a replacement in the project by Jan Tichy, Weronika Dams, and Helga Kovacs.

Jan Tichy writes about the various interests in public space that should be taken into account throughout the design process.
